What is happening?
Cardiff Women’s Aid is making some exciting changes and moving towards a community based model for our aftercare and recovery services. We think this will help us to be more accessible and needs-led and secure the future of our services.
These changes are not going to impact everything we do. Our RISE service, which currently operates from the Cardiff Royal Infirmary, is staying the same.
So what is changing?
Our Women’s Centre, currently located at No 50 Meteor street, Cardiff CF24 0HE, will be moving. Currently, this is where Central Services and Aftercare and Recovery services, such as Play Therapy, Craft Cafe, Safe Spaces, Own My Life, Phoenix, Yoga and CYP groups run from.
Aftercare and Recovery groups will run from community spaces across Cardiff, such as Hybs. Central Services will operate from a new Head Office at Office 27, Big Yellow Self Storage, 65 Penarth Road, Cardiff, CF10 5DL
When will this happen?
We are in the process of transitioning our groups and activities into their new community spaces. The last day of the Women’s Centre operating at No 50 will be Friday 27th September 2024. From Monday 30th September, CWA will be operating from our new Head Office on Penarth Road. All groups will have moved to their new locations before this date.
Why is this happening?
CWA has a vision to be more community facing and to better meet the needs of the people we support. By running our groups from different community spaces across the city, we can be more accessible to a greater range of people.
Where is the drop-in service?
Our crisis service operates from RISE at the Cardiff Royal Infirmary, Block 24, Longcross Street, Cardiff CF24 0JT. This is not changing. RISE remains open for drop-ins between 9 am — 7 pm, Monday to Friday. If you need support from RISE, these changes will not impact you.
I or my child already attend a group. Where is the group taking place?
If you or your child are already attending a group, the group facilitator will speak to you about the changes and let you know where your group will be moving to.
I or my child am on a waiting list to attend a group. Will this be affected?
If you or your child are on a waiting list to attend a group, the group facilitator will discuss the location of the group with you before booking you onto your first session. These changes will not affect your place on the waiting list.
What kind of community spaces are being used for groups?
The spaces our groups and activities are moving to are being carefully chosen so that we can still continue to provide the best possible service. We are choosing accessible and well established venues across Cardiff to help people more easily attend our groups. This could be a community hub, café or library.
Where will Play Therapy be?
Unlike other Aftercare and Recovery services, Play Therapy is not moving into a community venue. The Play Therapy Service will instead be moving into RISE in the Cardiff Royal Infirmary. Here, it will sit comfortably alongside our Children and Young Persons Team. Our Play Therapist is managing the transition sensitively and closely to ensure there is no affect to the service received by the children. If you are are waiting to start Play Therapy or have any concerns or questions you’d like to discuss, please contact Sarah directly.
